New restrictions have pulled coverage for GLP-1s

In 2023, Medi-Cal began covering GLP-1s, metabolic medications that reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, chronic kidney disease, obstructive sleep apnea, fatty liver disease, and heart failure. However, in 2026, Governor Newsom made the decision to cut coverage of these medications.

Parents, workers, and seniors who finally found a path to better health are losing their treatment because of a budget decision.
